It's the first of many times we're going to be talking about Billy Wilder on this show, and we're starting with a nasty one: ACE IN THE HOLE, a scathing satire and sunlit desert noir featuring Kirk Douglas as a heedlessly ambitious newspaper man. Woody Ciskowski from the Ultra 64 podcast is on hand to talk about this unfortunately prescient and still very relevant film.

Tuesday Sep 15, 2020
This week we're looking at John Cassavetes' intense family drama A WOMAN UNDER THE INFLUENCE, starring Gena Rowlands as a woman in the midst of a severe and disturbing mental breakdown, and Peter Falk as her blue-collar husband desperately trying to keep his family together. It's a searing, actor-driven piece that still resonates today.
Also, today we say goodbye to Mikayla Nicolson as a permanent co-host! She will definitely return as a guest later on, and we wish her the absolute best with everything! The show will continue on from here with Steve and an amazing rotating cast of co-hosts, so stay tuned for some amazing guests and conversations!

Sadly, there are only four films directed by female directors on the Great Movies list, but luckily, Agnes Varda's CLEO FROM 5 TO 7 made the cut. This concise, inventive, beautiful story of a gorgeous pop star waiting on some bad medical news spearheaded the French New Wave movement and stands today as a feminist masterpiece.

This week, we're looking at the ur text for modern science fiction filmmaking, Fritz Lang's 1927 opus METROPOLIS. Despite how influential the film has proven to be, it took nearly 80 years for the film to be released as the director intended it, and viewing the newest restoration is like seeing the film for the first time.

We're watching IN COLD BLOOD, the 1967 Richard Brooks film based on the mega-bestseller by Truman Capote.
